The Calls

’36 The Calls’ was an open international design competition for an iconic office building to occupy a prominent site adjacent to the River Aire. Our response is a dramatic faceted form, twisting on its axis to lean out towards to river, catching views across the city from the upper floors, whilst at ground level opening up to create a playfully sculptural public space at the water’s edge. The building envelope comprises a pattern of transparent and opaque triangular modules that serve to slowly reveal the building from without and the landscape from within whilst emphasizing the twisting form.
